Craft, Librarian, Subject Expertise, The Business of Writing
I offer a variety of workshops and talks. As a professional librarian I have experience conducting library programs from story times to craft classes and would love to run a program at your library. I offer professional teaching on all aspects of writing and publishing from the perspective of a published, but new author. I also offer classes and presentations related to nature writing, and aspects of small farming such as raising sheep and fiber crafts.
Jan Marry’s first novel, Sweet Tea and Anzac Biscuits, was published in 2025 by Blue Fortune Publishing. It is the first book in the Jessamine series. Jan’s short stories, personal essays, articles, and book reviews appeared in Nature Futures, The Hopkins Review, Virginia Libraries, Library Journal and more. She earned an M.A. in science writing from Johns Hopkins and a Master of Library Science from the University of Illinois and is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Writers, the James River Writers and Sisters in Crime. As a librarian for two decades, Jan revels in book groups, book displays, writing book reviews, and sharing books through library programs. In 2021 she was awarded the Donna G. Cote Virginia Librarian of the Year. Originally from New Zealand, Jan lived in six countries with her military family before settling on a small farm in Southeast Virginia where herding chickens and cats at the same time is a frequent (and non-metaphorical) occurrence.
