Vanessa Riley is the acclaimed author of Island Queen (a GMA Buzz Pick) and Queen of Exiles (an ABC View Lit Pick). Named 2024 Georgia Mystery/Detective Author of the Year for Murder in Drury Lane and 2023 Georgia Literary Fiction Author of the Year for Sister Mother Warrior, her work highlights hidden narratives of Black women and women of color in historical fiction, romance, and mystery. Her novels, over 25 to date, have been praised by The Washington Post, Entertainment Weekly, NPR, and The New York Times. Vanessa holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Stanford, infusing her storytelling with research on Caribbean, Georgian, and Regency eras. As a member of Crime Writers of Color, Mystery Writers of America, and the Historical Novel Society, she champions diverse voices and supports Sickle Cell Anemia awareness. When not writing, Vanessa enjoys baking, recreating her Trinidadian grandmother's recipes, and sipping coffee on her southern porch.
