I was a Public Information Officer for the police department for 8 years and taught at the police academy for 5 years. Very comfortable in front of an audience, even a tough one.
Wes Blalock is a retired university police sergeant and recipient of Valor and Lifesaving awards. As a young man, he had wanted to become the next great horror author and had even received 2nd place in a national short story contest in 1983, but life had other plans. Needing medical insurance and a stable income, he instead became a university police officer and his writing became a lot less creative as it was focused on crime and administrative reports, as well as lesson plans teaching Field Training and Background Investigation at the local police academy. As he neared retirement, his wife recommended that he return to writing. Wes has published several short stories and two stories from the Ranger Birdie McLaren series have won awards from Writers Digest and from Bewildering Stories. He currently lives in Northern California with his wife (his four children are adults, but keep in touch) and works for a national insurance company, while he types out new crime fiction.
