Born in England, James T. Bartlett is the author of the Anthony Award-nominated true crime book, The Alaskan Blonde: Sex, Secrets, and the Hollywood Story that Shocked America, which reexamines a sensational 1953 murder in Fairbanks that ended with a suicide in Hollywood, and hit the pages of Life, Newsweek, Ebony, Jet, and the pulp detective magazines. He also wrote the Gourmet Ghosts alternative guides to crime, ghosts, and the history behind Los Angeles bars, hotels, and restaurants, which led to appearances on Ghost Adventures and The UnXplained, and his short story “Under The Stars” was selected for the Sisters in Crime-Los Angeles 2023 anthology Entertainment To Die For. As a journalist he writes about history, true crime, travel and lifestyle for the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Daily News, National Geographic Traveller, BBC, Los Angeles Magazine, Hemispheres, High Life, Atlas Obscura, ALTA California, Frommers, Crime Reads and Real Crime, among others.
