Karen has given workshops to writing groups across the US on aspects of craft including backstory, secondary characters, and voice, and on query letters and community building. She has also given many slide presentations, including "Victorian Murder, Mayhem, and Mystery," to libraries, nonprofit organizations, and community groups.
USA Today bestselling author Karen Odden received her PhD in English from NYU and taught at UW-Milwaukee before writing fiction set in 1870s London. Her fifth novel, Under a Veiled Moon (2022), was nominated for the Agatha, Lefty, and Anthony Awards for Best Historical Mystery and features Michael Corravan, a former thief turned Scotland Yard Inspector. Her sixth novel, An Artful Dodge (Soho Crime, June 2026), is about an all-women thieving gang in 1879 London. Karen serves on the board of Sisters in Crime and lives in Arizona and Utah.
