Texan L. A. Starks was born in Boston, MA, and grew up in northern Oklahoma. Starks is the author of the award-winning Lynn Dayton thriller series: 13 DAYS: THE PYTHAGORAS CONSPIRACY, STRIKE PRICE, THE SECOND LAW, and WINNER’S CURSE. WINNER'S CURSE was a finalist in the 2026 Indies Today awards and in the 2025 IAN Book of the Year awards. THE SECOND LAW was a quarterfinalist in the ScreenCraft Cinematic Book Competition 2023; an Action-Adventure finalist in the 2020 National Indie Excellence Awards, and a Mystery & Thriller Quarterfinalist for The BookLife Prize in 2019. Her books have won Best International Thriller and Best Mystery/Thriller from the Texas Association of Authors. Starks earned a BS (engineering) at Tulane and an MBA at the University of Chicago. For over a decade, she analyzed energy investments for Seeking Alpha (700 articles, 1.3 million words). She has run 23 half-marathons. In 2019, she was inducted into the Ponca City, Oklahoma, High School Hall of Fame.
